TDR SUMMER 2011 EVENT

The events are collectively called Summer Event 2011 - "This summer is our summer!"

I know this is quite late but I figured I'd post it anyway! These are the current events taking place in TDR during August. It's quite image-heavy, so enter at your own risk?

I'll be covering:
  • Tokyo Disneyland's "Cool the Heat" event.
  • Tokyo Disney Sea's "Summer Oasis Splash" event.
Interested? Keep readin'!
Disclaimer: All of the content in this post came from the Tokyo Disney Resort Official Site. I do not make any claim to owning these, this is merely a guide on how to enjoy the site if you aren't fluent in Japanese.
So, first up here's a "Programme" of the two parks and their events...
On the left is TDL's "Cool the Heat". This year they've taken on a Pirate theme, quite possibly to tie-in with the latest POTC movie. Nonetheless, it's looking pretty fun.
On the right is TDS's "Summer Oasis Splash". They've completely changed TDS's Summer event, possibly due to this being the 10th anniversary of the park. They've changed quite a lot so I'm not surprised they've changed the events, too. Keeps it fresh.

TOKYO DISNEYLAND

This year's show is based around a Pirate theme - "BE PIRATES!"
TDL's summer event always includes an amazing, super-soaker of a show! This year the theme is "BE PIRATES" (Engrishy, I know!) and the show centers around Goofy and his treasure. There is lots of dancing, water-spraying and character appearances. It seems that, this year, with each show ,different characters will appear and you won't know who it'll be until the show begins - Sounds pretty interesting! I'd wanna see Pluto! The show is on 4 times per day, and I assume that, as per usual, you need to enter your park ticket into one of their machines to see if you're lucky enough to get a ticket (they do this with popular shows to prevent over-crowding; you use a machine inside a special room and it tells you whether or not you've won. I remember getting tickets to "One Man's Dream: The Magic Lives On" and squeeing!). I have to say that the evening show, in my opinion, is always the best! They shoot these HUGE columns of water up into the air at extreme pressures and the water falls everywhere! You're pretty much guranteed to get soaked if you stand anywhere near the castle (the map illustrates this above!)

Some of the "Mini Events" going on during the "BE PIRATES!" event.
These are some of the special "mini-events" going on.
Pirate Treasure Hunt:
In keeping with the Pirates-theme, there is a pirate treasure map quest. I assume it'll be very similar to the Easter Egg Hunt they do in the Spring events. You pay around 500yen for a map and go around the park solving clues in order to receive a prize at the end. This time it's a very Pirate-sy bandana. These treasure hunts are extremely popular in TDR - I wish I'd had a go on the Easter Egg Hunt one... maybe next time!
Pirate Drawing Class:
TDL always offers a drawing masterclass to paying customers inside their "Disney Gallery" in "World Bazaar", but to suit the current event taking place, they often put on an extra-special class where you can learn how to draw an event-themed character. This time it's a Pirate-Mickey Mouse! Seems like a difficult drawing to master, but fun nonetheless! Again, it costs 500yen and the session lasts 30mins with a pro CM.
Pirates of the Caribbean Art Gallery:
Inside the queue area for the PotC ride, there is now a special art gallery featuring artwork from the latest Pirates movie "On Stranger Tides". I suppose it helps ease the boredom and unbearable heat during the immense queue times they have in the summer! (I once queued 2 and a half hours for PotC as it was my last visit there during the summer before I left Japan - My God, I nearly passed out!!)

Special Goods for the event.
And finally, we're onto the "Special Goods" released in TDL for the events. We have from top-bottom, left-right; head-gear, t-shirts, fans, vinyl bags, phone straps, stickers, notepads, photo framses, tumbler glasses, cookies and gummies. I'd love some of the stickers!

Your very own souvenir, fully customised to your taste!
And, no special event goods would be complete without the "build your own.." range that is so very popular in TDR. They usually take the form of phone straps/bag charms and this event is no exception. You can build your very own pirate-sy phone or bag charm! As you can see from the picture, there are alot of different items you can add on and it can get rather expensive but I think it's very kawaii and a totally unique souvenir to take home! It can cost between 2000-3000+yen for one finished product, depending on what you choose and if you make a bag strap or a phone strap. What do you think?

Tokyo Disney Sea

Summer Oasis Splash event at TDS.
This year's summer event at TDS is a little different from the previous years in that they have changed the theming to that of a "cool oasis" and have brought in characters from Aladdin, led by the enigmatic Genie! According to the Japanese, the harbour has been transformed into a cool oasis by the power of Genie's magic! Sounds pretty good, though I know it won't be "cool" at all, lol! The show is the same as usual, but with the addition of Al and co. That is, the show takes place in the harbour and surrounding areas and involves several boats and barges traversing the harbour and soaking everyone on the sides! I experienced the show last year and it's amazing! Everyone goes crazy for it. I loved the cool water as it was so hot. Some people, right at the front, get absolutely drenched! As in, they leave puddles behind when they walk!! It doesn't help that various CM's are set up along the sides to soak guests in their areas with water hoses (often named areas a-g.. or something) It's pretty awesome! Wish I was there. And, on a side-note, HOW CHEESY IS THE ALADDIN?! Haha, what a cornball!

Special goods for the event.
These are the "Special Goods" for the event. They are, top-bottom, left-right; plushie, plushie pin badge, keychain, paper cover, notepads, pin badge, phone strap, tumbler glass, fan, vinyl bag, candy and cookies. Looks pretty nice, I love the bright colouring! Very tropical! I'd like the pin badge...Shame there's no Pluto, though. I collect his merchandise!

And, that wraps up the Summer event for TDR. It runs until the end of the month and then I think they resort'll be back to normal until the run-up to Halloween (My favourite event!!)

Hope you enjoyed it! Feel free to leave a comment or share any other news you have for the resort. I might've missed something!

xoxo
